Happy Easter Day!

I think as our children grow up, they slowly start to want to be involved in various festivals and want to find out about the different traditions and meaning behind each public holiday and festival.

Jamie was really excited about Easter Day. To Christians it may be to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead but to our little Princess, Easter stands for Spring. And Spring stands for Hope. For little children, it is really important for them to always have Hope for their future.

Similarly, as an adult it is Hope that keeps me moving on, no matter how many times I fall down.

To commemorate my moving on, today we shall make Easter Eggs together!!!

Aiyah, nevermind Lah! As long as we have fun in the process and feel that is meaningful can already! ^^

This is what we need!

Eggs, warm water and food dye.

Hehehe and we used the leftover food dye from our last DIY dough making session!

Ta-Da...!

Jamie was very excited and insisted she dipped the eggs herself!

We tried very hard to colour the eggs but the colours don't seemed to be very vibrant. I tried to google for a Easter Egg recipe and realized we should have used white chicken eggs instead. Nevermind, we no need to wait until the next Easter to make Easter Eggs. We can make the colorful eggs anytime of the year ^^

Jamie having fun!

Soaking the eggs in hope the colours can become more vibrant.

Yes! Though the colors are not super vibrant but after soaking for 15-20min, we can actually see the colours on the eggs!

Pretty!!!

Happy Jamie had just finished eating 3 of the eggs ^^

Jelly-Making Day with Jamie!

It's a rare mid week public holidays and we wanted to do something "special" together!

Hmmm.. I know she wants to make pancake or do pancakes together. However, we do not have an conventional oven nor any pancake ingredients.

Dug through the kitchen cabinets and found a packet of jelly powder.

Jamie was really excited and kept saying "Mummy, this is my first time making jelly together with you!"

She smiled happily as she assisted in the making..

Step 1: Pour in the Powder

Step 2: Pour in 1000-1250ml of water slowly and stir the mixture until powder is dissolved

Haha.. After this step Jamie ran off to "rest" and I completed the rest of the steps.

Step 3: Boil the mixture at high flame until boil. Then boil for another 3min in low flame. Off the stove.

Step 4: Add in Malic Acid and stir evenly.

Step 5: Pour the warm mixture into smaller containers.

Step 6: Cool down mixture and put in fridge. Ready to eat in 3hrs time!

Happy Jamie and her Jelly!!!

DIY Home-made Play Dough

I had googled the DIY recipe to make play dough some time ago but was too lazy to actually do it.

Having run out of playtime ideas, I decided I can make the DIY play dough with Jamie today!

I chose the recipe that doesn't require cooking nor the cream of tartar. It's so simple and low cost, that I think anyone can make it at home with your kids!

You should be able get the ingredients from ntuc and cold storage or any other super markets. But you may not be able to buy many different colours of food dyes from the super markets. I could only find purple, green, yellow, brown and red at cold storage today. If you wish to have more colours, you can buy the food dyes from Phoon Huat @ 107 Toa Payoh Lorong 1 which is near the Bradell Mrt Station. But since it's my first time making, I decided not to be so ambitious.

This recipe is sufficient to make 5 coloured doughs. This round I decided to buy red, yellow, green and purple food dyes and will mix the red and yellow food dyes to make orange colour too!

She really enjoys it! She has always love baking and cooking with me, and this round she gets to actually made something on her own.

Please follow Jamie's instructions below to make the play dough.

1) First, mix all the flour and salt together in a big bowl.

2) Pour 1/4 of the water, 1/4 of the oil, 1/4 of the mixed flour and a few drops of one of the food dyes into a bowl. Stir them together.

3) Pour the mixed coloured dough onto a tray with sprinkled flour. Continue to knead until the colour looks vibrant.

4) Repeat step 1-3 to make the other 4 coloured doughs. Remember to keep them moist by storing them in ziplock bags and in a cool place!

Tadaz!!! Very vibrant colours right!! Jamie really loves them and gets busy with them immediately!

DIY play dough is not only cheap but also hygiene and safe for young children to play with. Even if the young toddlers like Didi accidentally put it in their mouths also okay! :P

Try it out some day with your little ones!!!

First Time Baking!!!

Another tick in my 'things to do' list!!!

Starting work next Thursday and I thought I won't get a chance to bake before that.

LUCKY!!! I got a ready cookie mix in my drawer and the rest of the ingredients too - an egg, water and margarine! That's all that take to bake some cookies!

I got my little helper today too :) Had wanted to bring the two darlings for a swim initially, but weather was bad. So we decided to stay home and bake instead!

Jamie really enjoys helping out and see how serious my great chef looked when she was busy at work :)

The first batch of double Choco chunk cookies tasted really nice! Hence we going to continue with the rest of the cookie dough ;)

Mission accomplished! I am going to get more cake and cookie mix next time :)

Posted the photos on fb and friends were already requesting to try out great chef Jamie's cookies ^^
