A Happier Me Now..。

This post took me weeks to complete because there were too many distractions eg work, work and work. Haha! Okay! I shall stop using work as an excuse lah! I guess lately I am experiencing some mind-block

However sad I was, I realized I could not cry.

Time is a Gift..

Since Time is so priceless, I should not waste it on crying over spill milk. Instead, I should use it to think if there is any way to turn the table around. Yes, it seems impossible but this does not stop me from fighting on. I will not give up until I tried every possible way. Until I had done my best, I cannot give up.

Recently, coincidentally there were alot of events which triggered me to feel nostalgic. Last few weeks, I caught up with friends whom I knew at different stages of my life 10-20 years ago. Then recently I watched Alice in Wonderland 2 - Looking through the Glass and attended Sammi Cheng's concert at RWS. Even watching "Finding Dory" gave me some new insights about my life.

I guess it is liked a ten-yearly taking stick session? And I hadn't been taking stock for 20 years? Sad to say, I had wasted 10 years of my life wondering why I am unable to be in my "dream job" and wasted my recent few years feeling lousy about myself.

I am definitely happier than before now. So many of my friends were saying "though I am not sure what you do at work but I definitely can see you areso much happier these days because it is all written over your face and you have this happy aura around you. Yeah, I know. This is me, if u bother to, u will definitely be able to read me like a book. My aura cannot lie! Haha!

But sometimes I do still feel a bit sad and wish to whine a little. But well, just a little lah! If I feel nothing then I am not me already k?

One of my old friends reminded me that I should count how many ticks are in my bucket list and not hold on to the list of 遗憾 which I did not managed to achieve. Some things are meant to be. I might not be happier even if I have these things because I meant to be happier without them.

I learnt from Alice in Wonderland that we cannot undo what has been done but we can always learn something from the past. As long as we know what went wrong and the reasons that caused the wrong, then we can ensure history does not repeat itself. And we will treasure what we have now since we know it did not come easy.

As I watched Sammi Cheng's concert and listened to the "old songs" she sang, I suddenly had alot of flashbacks. I realized I grew up watching her HK romance  comedies. She was always the Cinderella in the various movies, who later met up with her "prince charming" and they would overcome all the challenges before they lived happily ever after.

This reminds me of the Taiwanese movie I watched few months back.

I too have found my knight who is willing to forgive my every mistake and accept me to be who I am.

I too have gradually regained my lost "voice" and confidence. Similarly to the female lead actress who had became "seasoned" by the harsh working society, I had became rather quiet and disillusioned over the years. Though I am still relatively "quiet", compared to the me in my school days, I now dare to voice out my opinions again because there are audience who take what I say more seriously.

Movie Review -

Planes - Our Capabilities are not restricted by what we are made of

Our Capabilities are not restricted by what we are made of.

A crop-seeder plane had shown to the world that, his capabilities are not restricted by what he had been built for.

Went to watch this awesome movie with Yvonne (aka Godma) and Jamie last weekend. As this movie is from the producer of <Cars> so I didn't bother to read the reviews before I bought the movie tickets. I knew Jamie will love this movie a lot too because she is a big fan of <Cars>.

Actually I had always felt that <Cars> was never meant to be a children's movie. If you feel so too, then you will agree that <Planes> too was meant to be for adults. Because the moral of the story seems to be too heavy for the young.

Watching this movie, cheers people on because it shows how the underdogs or those who are not looked up to, can do far more than what you think they can do. You need not have a good background to achieve great things in life.

Dusty, the crop seeder knew his engine was not meant to fly for long period of time. He even has fear for height because he never needs to fly very high. But this doesn't not stop him to have big dreams. He knows that by getting the right coach, he will be able to overcome all his obstacles.

Skipper, the legendary former fighter plane, was the ideal coach for Dusty. But Skipper has a secret...

But the movie was not just about achieving the 'impossible'. It also shares the truth that to achieve this unflavourable victory, we require slight 'moderation' and lots of effort to catch up with the rest who already have a head start. If Dusty had not done his engine moderation and agreed to change his original 'look' (by removing the seeding device), he may not have win the race. Hence, as much as we should be positive and idealistic, we need to be realistic and willing to accept feasible suggestions too!

There are people out there who want to prove others that they can do it, but yet they are too stubborn to accept others' suggestions to change. We have to be clear of our strengths and weaknesses before the 'fight', so that we can strategize to maximize the best of what we have, and yet make required changes to convert our weaknesses to strengths!

The movie also shows that being good and genuine will draw people to wish to help you. Dusty wants to win the race and he believes he can. However, he was humble and sincere. Therefore in the end, the other planes reached out to help Dusty when he was in need.

It's really a great movie and should not be missed! Do take some time of to catch it in the cinema!

The Martian - I will survive

Initially, I hesitated about watching this movie. I didn't want to watch a sad and demoralising movie. I want to watch a movie that is inspiring and positive. I had thought this movie is about a man who tried hard to survive after being stranded on Mars but failed.

I was wrong.

This movie is about how one of the best problem solvers survived on Mars for 400+ days despite all hopes seemed to have lost.

Seriously, this movie tells that any man who can apply your expertise/forte and with a never-say-die attitude when you need to do what you aren't good in, is going to walk a long way and survive any shit that can happen in your life.

Nothing is impossible. You just need to be positive, resourceful and focus on solving  your problems. See how Mark grew potatoes using his own human waste as fertilizer and how he made water using chemistry knowledge.

This movie tells that it is not impossible for us to one day live in Mars. It tells how all the theories can work as long as we are willing to experiment the theories. The movie tells us our dreams in living in other planets can come true one day, if we keep on trying and experimenting.

The movie tells us that even at our darkest moments, we should not waste time feeling sad because feeling sad not only drains your morale and energy, but it also won't get you anywhere.

Focusing on solving your problems one by one, will get you somewhere. Like what Mark says "When you solve enough problems, you can go home."

I used to spend time sucking my own energy and feeling emo. Not anymore. This is my resolution for this year. To stop crying over spill milk and grieve continuously over something i have no control of or cannot do anything about. I will make full use of my existing resources to solve my problems one by one. And then it will be time to harvest the fruits of my efforts.

I want to believe that this time all things wil go well. This time I will survive...

Home = Feel the Light

Once again, the Almighty had sent me a message via a movie. Really find this movie very meaningful, especially at this stage of my life.

This song by Jennifer Lopez is about overcoming obstacles. It's very soothing and it speaks my mind.

Yes, I am feeling better now. Thanks everyone who had encouraged me and assured me of my character and capabilities. I am also grateful to many friends who had helped or are helping me to look out for a new job.

I had spoken to many people these few days. Some had given me very good insights. Some had even answered my questions. Though it is hard truths, I appreciated the honest sharing. I always believe that only those who really care for me, will be honest to me and share their true thoughts with me.

I can now feel the light in the dark of the night :) All is not lost. What's important is I still have my friends who many I regard as my family too.

This movie is suitable for the young and the old. But I think the young may only watch it as it is - funny and interesting as it talks about aliens and the unknown galaxy. As an adult, I derived more from the movie. If u have recently experienced some setbacks, you will definitely like the movie a lot like me.

This movie had given me these insights:
1. All is not lost as long as you have your kins and loved ones with you.

2. Count the little blessings we have. And try to put ourselves in others' shoes to understand others' point of views.

3. Do not see everything as it is. The Boo's enemy did not want to destroy them. He only wants his kins back as the captain has stolen his whole next generation away. The enemy in its real form is actually totally harmless and seven cute, hence it had to wear the armour to look frightful. So Don't judge people by his/her cover. Find out more before you judge.

4. Don't believe everything you are told. Verify it to ensure the accuracy of the information shared. The Boos citizens didn't know they had been misinformed by the captain until Oh voiced his experiences.

5. A good leader is NOT someone who is the first to run away/escape when your citizens/subjects are in danger. A good leader ensures safety for all his citizens/subjects even if it means endangering his/her own life.

6. We do not stop trying as long as there is hope. Unlike the Boos who believe in running away or stop trying or submit to fate as long as there is less than 60% of succeeding in their attempts.

7. Mistakes are what makes us Humans. We learnt from mistakes and stand up after falling down. We do not give up trying. Our flaws are what makes us unique individuals.

8. U not being the same as the rest (mainstream) doesn't mean you are not as good as them. But it definitely means you may be better than the rest, be it in intelligence or character.

9. Don't be just task oriented and focus on busy working. We must have fun in our lives too! Live your lives!

10. The most dangerous place may actually be the safest place. We run towards danger to face our fears and solve our problems. By running away, your problems are not solved and may reoccur again in your next destinations. Fight your fears! Don't back down! Don't give up!

Better catch the movie if you have yet to do so!

Controversial Review of 50 Shades of Grey...

Lately read a lot of negative reviews about <50 grey="" of="" shades="">; and many articles that discourage everyone from watching the movie.

Before I go on, I have to first explain that I was a literature student until JC and in my course of study, I came across quite a number of controversial stories/novels. From my course of study, I also learnt that there is always two sides of a coin about a novel. It usually reflects the Society and its cultural practices. But it also may reflect the author's mentality and possible dilemmas at the time he was writing the novel.

I heard of many famous authors who committed suicide due to their contraversial practices/beliefs. But surprisingly their novels became famous only after they committed suicide. This shows how the Society might have recognize how their conventional practices/beliefs had lost many precious lives...

Before I go on, I also like to share that I did not read any of the novels. My review is merely my feel after watching the movie. Maybe I will have a different review after I read the novels or watched the second part of the movie. As of now, the below is how I feel about the movie/storyline.

Christian Grey is definitely a shitty man. But I am not like the feminists, who claimed that Grey is being hypocrite and felt that Grey was only trying to cover up his sadist's fantasies with his pitiful childhood. I believe his bad childhood had caused him to feel insecure about women.

I believe every child seeks his/her mum's embrace as the safest place in life. Every child wants to believe his/her mum loves one and every thing she does is for one's own good. Being abused since he was born had definitely left a scar in Grey's mind and heart. It was normal that he no longer felt safe to be embraced by a woman nor felt that a woman is capable of making the "right" decisions. It was normal that he wants to take control of his own life and demand the women to about to him.

Yes, he is pretty sick to find pleasure in punishing women by hitting them because he was taught to believe that if "you don't obey me, you should be punished" from young. It's the same as many other children, who grew up from families that practice family violence. Should they not "let go of their past", they eventually will practice family violence themselves.

However, I feel that Grey is one of the few who wanted very much to let go of his past. Hence he worked hard to please his adopted family. He worked hard to build his enterprise. He was unlike his adopted brother who not only don't work, but also wasted his life/money away partying. Because Grey knew his new life did not come easy, he worked hard to sustain his new identity and to become self-sufficient (and not rely on his new family's wealth). He knew he cannot depend or rely on anyone to feel safe and secure. He wanted to prove to the world that someone like him with a scarred and humble past can also become successful in life. He is like many convicts who are given second chances. He is like many drop-outs who later on went back on track. We should applause his determination and his success should encourage those with humble beginnings to work hard for better lives.

Instead of supporting the idea that he enjoys punishing women to "get back in them" because he was abused by them when he was young, I will like to believe that Grey actually hopes to find a woman who can make him feel safe once again in her embrace.

He loves Anastacia differently from the way he loved other women. No other women would have dare challenged him or bargained with him. True enough it was Anastacia's feminist belief which had caught Grey's attention and interest. Many Korean and Taiwan dramas have similar storylines too, where the rich demanding young man/bachelor take interest in the only lady who dare defy him.

I notice that the movie was screened in an era where there was no 3G and no smartphone. There was no icq, no Friendster, no Twitter, no Facebook and of coz no whatsapp. It should be an era that men still have more influence in the society. But it should also be an era where women slowly wanted to have their voices heard and also voiced their demand for emotional and sexual needs. Hence it's normal for Grey to fall in love with Anastacia.

I noticed in many instances in the movie, Grey actually was obedient and even "happy" when Anastacia takes control of him and play him around. I guess as much as humans want to demand for their rights, humans afterall are quite 犯贱 sometimes too and likes to be pushed around by the ones they love.

Like Grey said, when "you totally submit to another person, you actually feel safe. Because u no longer have to be accounted for the decisions made. You will be freed". I kinda of understand what Grey means... By not having to account for the decisions Made especially if your decisions are wrong. You will not have to be blamed and felt that you are the cause of the bad outcomes.

Like Grey, I did not have a good childhood. Somehow I grew up to become someone who always blame myself for bad outcomes from the decisions I made. It handicapped me and made me have little confidence when I need to make decisions. Coz I feel that I am not capable of making the "right decisions"... And incapable of making people around me happy... And I am the cause of people wanting to abuse me or be mean to me...I too hope that someone else who is more capable can help me make important decisions and hand-hold me all my life...

So I know what Grey means and how Grey means/feels...

I can somehow feel that instead of wanting to take control of Anastacia, Grey actually hopes that Anastacia can become the Dominant and takes control of his life. So that Grey can once again feel safe in a woman's embrace. So that Grey no longer needs to blame himself for his mother's desires to abuse him. So that Grey can feel being loved and wanted again for who he is and not what he has (his enterprise and money).

You may not agree with what I write but I guess the magic about watching a movie, reading a movie or watching a drama, is that everyone may have a different enlightenment because of everyone's personal experiences and state of mind at the time of watching the movie/drama or reading the novel...

But hor, I am pretty sad that the male lead will be different for the next two movies :( coz I think he did a good job in the movie. Loves his intimidating look!
But well I guess the crew will definitely be able to find another male actor with a good body and intimidating look ^^ (will "secretly" vote for Hugh Jackman or Brad Pitt to be the next Christian Grey ^^)

And don't know why his "laters babe" always make me wants to laugh.. Hahaha... :/

I think I will go and read the three books ^^

Laters Babe...

Enjoy Life's Uncertainties - Night at the Museum 3

Oops I was looking through my "blog backlog" and noticed I hadn't sent this movie review out. Oops... And it's already off screen. Nevertheless, it's a movie not to be missed like all of Ben Stiller's recent movies...

Movies never fails to give me new insights about life.. Sometimes, I even feel that my guardian angel is "speaking" to me via movies, because I always seem to be watching the "right" movies at the "right" time...or maybe I unknowingly watch the "right" movies to convince myself of my unconscious thoughts...

At the beginning of the year, I watched two very meaningful movies. One is <Night at the Museum 3> and the other <Into the Woods>. I will share more about <Into the Woods> in another review. (Should I be able to find the energy to do so..)

I never missed any of the Night in the Museum Movies since year 2006. It was the year I got legally married and entered a new stage of my life. I knew I wanted to marry my Laogong all along but I didn't expect him to propose to me earlier than I expected him to. Afterall he just graduated from NTU back then and was still studying in NIE. I was his only girlfriend (for 6 years by then) but I thought maybe he should still experience work life first before he decided if he is "ready" for a lifelong commitment. I didn't want him to propose to me because he knew I wanted him to and had waited patiently for him to ask for my hand.

Life was uncertain but exciting. Laogong and I even tried backpacking and travelled 30hours by bus from Singapore to Bangkok, after our ROM. It was really fun trying to solve the "challenges" as they came. We almost couldn't find the air tickets back to Singapore before my vacation leave ended :P

But somehow the excitement didn't last very long. We slowly get sucked into the stress of ensuring financial stability. We had to save up to hold our wedding dinner in year 2008, had our first child in year 2009 and renovated our new house in year 2011.

Things got worse when I ended up in a job which I liked very much but seemed to have no light down the tunnel. Everything I thought was "real", was actually an "illusion". Everything I tried so hard to do to get it "right", actually was "wrong" from the start.

I became a very unhappy person because I became frightened by the uncertainties in my life. Everything that used to seem right became all wrong. I started to doubt my judgement and I started to also doubt if I could have made better decisions as a good wife, mother and person..

But lately, I started to realize maybe I was actually on the right track all along. The track I presumed suited me, was actually not going to work out no matter how hard I tried. Maybe I was then just too engrossed in my "box" and was too eager to seek the sense of belonging, that I lost my "six sense" to detect that things were "not right" from the beginning.

I now believe that things were meant to be. I was meant to go through the stress and unhappiness, so that I can emerge to become a better person and to learn to appreciate what I already have. I am glad I was actually "saved" :P I am glad I didn't stubbornly continue to "blind myself". I am glad I have really many 贵人 aka angels around me to guide and enlighten me.

Thank you all who have sincerely encouraged and coached me. Thank you for your faith and 打抱不平... I will always remember your kindness and guidance.

I also understand myself a bit better after doing the personalities test on http://www.16personalities.com. Everything that I do and feel suddenly make sense. I started to accept that we can't be in control of everything. And we should not blame ourselves for everything that didn't worked out the way we wish it does.

Recently, someone also reminded me of something, which I thought through and agreed is very true. She said that no matter how hard we try, we cannot stop someone from wanting to judge us. And we are unable to control how the person want to judge us too. So why should we be bothered or be upset about something we cannot control? I know that fearing to be judged is what always makes me "freeze". But this year, I tell myself that I need and want to "defrost" myself and "Let it Go".

<Night in the Muesum 3> seems to be telling people to step out of their comfort zones, to explore the unknown and to enjoy the uncertainties in life. The only constant in life is the change itself..  The unknown is what makes life interesting isn't it? If our everyday life is merely following a regime, we will soon get bored of life. It's the unknown and the uncertainties that makes every new day worth looking forward to.

<Night in the Museum 3> also teaches me that when my children grow up, I should let them explore their lives and not force them to follow the "conventional" track. Maybe they will make mistakes and maybe they will fall but the learning through experiencing lives is priceless..

It's a great movie and Ben Stiller is a very good actor/comedian! His other recent movie about Mitty Wartor, makes me want to let go of everything and just run into the "wild" to "live my life". But I guess it's a bit hard for the next 13-16 years.  However I am also someone who believes there must be a way to try and juggle my role as me, a wife and a mother, it's just that I haven't found the "right" way to. I will not give up and I will continue to learn to be a better person, wife and mother. I may fall again but "Success is not measure by how many times we fall down but measure by how fast we get up After we fall down..."

Well, the reason I am still standing here instead of running away, is what makes me me ^^ Let's all enjoy the fear.. The uncertainties and the unknown...and take control of how you want to react to challenges... ^^

Planes 2: You never know what's out there for you...

It's been a while since I last watched The Planes 2 but I still feel like sharing about this meaningful movie.

I always feel that the script writer of Cars and Planes had never meant the movies to be for children. The morals behind these two movies series are too chim for children to digest or cheer about,

Even as an adult, it took me a while to digest the show. Honestly, it was not among the top list of my must watch movies initially. But I didn't regret watching it and I highly recommend everyone who is experiencing unhappiness at work or at a career crossroad to watch the movie.

I was feeling unhappy over my previous job when I watched this movie. I was also feeling nervous about the job change too. I didn't know if I was too old to change a job and if I was just fighting a lost battle.

After watching the movie, I felt inspired and assured that a change maybe after all the 'correct' step/route to take. And no one is ever too old for a new change or to take up a new responsibility. Dusty, the crop duster, worked so hard to be finally a world winner but he decided to give up his dream career to be a fire-fighter plane in order to save his town.  This shows that 牺牲小我完成大我 can turn out not only heroic but also a better career than you thought it is.

The movie also tells that everyone has a past but we have to learn to let go of the baggage so that we can soar high and 'free'. This is easily said than done though. But if we don't try, we will never get a step closer to our destination. The leader of the fire-fighter planes was once a tv star until mishap happened to his co-star. But he learnt to let go and try out something new as an alternative career. It turns out he has ascended from a fake tv hero to a real fire-fighting hero.

The movie tells of the danger of forest fire and the 'excitement' of the uncertainty that lies ahead. Though we never know how bad the situation would be but as long as we take precautions, remain alert and work as a team, things will work out just find. Being in a new job for Dusty he felt left out and he sometimes tells himself that he had to do this job because he has no choice but eventually he became good friends with the other fire fighters and believes he can be one of them too.

Being humble and selfless will bring people to you. Selfish people only think for themselves hence in time of danger, people fled from the selfish people. However, Dusty knew he was injured and he was unable to fly very high, but he did not tell his team mates about it and still push himself to the max limit. We thought he would die since his engine is out of production already. However, turned out there is a hidden gem among the fire fighter who could custom-made a new engine box for Dusty. When you give your all to others, others will give their all to you too.

AND, we must always look out for the 卧虎藏龙 in the office.. People may stay low and humble but these gems have lots more to teach the newbies than the loud and proud ones. We don't need people to praise themselves so as to be taken noticed of; we can open our ears to hear who are the ones that others are singing praises of, to know who are the real gems.

When Others fly out, Heros fly in..,

Being in the social sector is never easy. As the world becomes more critical, complacent and demanding, sometimes we may get a bit discouraged. Sometimes we may wonder if it makes any sense at all.

But this movie kicks me a bit and makes me understand that:

Yes... Because we are the Heros, so we will definitely continue to plunge in and do our best for the society ^^

Zooooommmm........

Xmen - Feel More Sad than Excitement

Hmmm.. Was wondering whether to put strongly recommended or not because I was actually a little bit disappointed with this Xmen movie.

Maybe because I had anticipated too much and hence was expecting for more excitement than I actually received...

But I would still strongly recommend the movie because:
1. It touched my heart...
2. I love Wolverine!! (:P)

I actually felt sad when I watched the movie. I actually felt sad for the Xmen. I suddenly realised they are also humans who have different DNAs. But they will bleed and they will die. Even Wolverine who never age and can heal as fast as he  injure himself, will bleed and may die too.

It reminded me that this happens in real life too. You need not be a mutant to be rejected by the majority. You just needed to be different or unconventional. Why are people so scared of those who are different or unconventional? Is it because they are unpredictable so we can't control them? Is it because we are afraid of the unknown? Do you know they actually are more afraid of us than we are afraid of them...

I like some of the many phrases Professor Xaiver said to Wolverine and the old Prof spoke to his younger self:

1. Because you make a mistake once doesn't mean you will be lost forever. Everyone deserves a second chance.

2. There is always more than one possible future. Do not give up. Always have hope.

Yes, I do believe in both phrases all my life...

I know... when we are forced to the edge of the cliff, we cannot help but to think isn't it easier for us to just jump down the cliff and end all the suffering.

Sometimes I feel like that too... When I am really tired and burnt out, I will want to just 'end' my current 'suffering'.

But the good thing is that I am someone who is really stubborn. I am also a very proud person who is determined to be the surviver. I believe as long as we don't give up hope, we always stand a chance to create miracles...

The other gimmicks you get for catching the movie is:

1. You will get to see Wolverine's good built! Even better than Captain America's!!! Oh! And Wolverine has a really well-kept toned butt :P

2. It's really a touching sight to see Magneto and Professor Xaiver fighting side by side in their last 'last lap'.

3. It's means a lot to me to see Wolverine who was once lost and difficult to 'manage', becomes a good mentor to young Professor Xaiver.

4. The young Magneto is actually pretty attractive :P that's why Mystic is unable to resist him!

5. You will realise Professor Xaiver is actually in love with Mystic as if she is his own child 'being raised by him'. This also shows how 自负 he is. Maybe smart people are naturally 自负.

6. You will see iceman do his ice-glide! Everyone's talking about it! Though he is an iceman, he is totally hot! :X

7. You will realize President Kennedy was killed because he is also a mutant! Reminds me of the other movie - The Vampire Slayer...

8. For a moment, you will feel Magneto is right...

9. You will feel like crying at some parts of the movie.

10. It has a great happy ending! And you get to see Jean and Scott again!

So hit the cinema right now and catch this movie!
