Supermum Day 5: Assured and Surviving...

Day 5.

Though I had no ME time after work to catch up with my piling work...

Though I had to "fly" home everyday after work to be the cooking mama...

Though I had insufficient sleep since day 1... coz need to wake up at 3am daily to make milk for James and 5am daily to prepare Jamie for school...

BUT what I gained over these 5 days is priceless.

I gained more smiles from my kids that assured me I cook well...

I gained more love from my kids for giving/spending more undivided attention and time with them...

I gained their needs for me for putting them to sleep every night, packing their school bags for the next day and waking up early to prepare them for school...

I feel so much more confident as a mother in just 5 days.

People used to call me "Princess" or "Spoilt brat" for being over-reliant on my helper. Sometimes I started to wonder if I lost my cooking skills and routine care skills too. Over the 6 years, I did doubt myself too. But every two years I was given the chance to assure myself over and over again.

Today I cooked a two-dish yummy dinner which took me about an hour plus, including preparation time. As time is required to thaw the fish and minced meat hence I took more time to cook dinner tonight. Cooked double mushroom soup with shredded crabsticks and ma po toufu tonight. Steamed salmon for James too because he needs to eat salmon almost everyday.

Will share the recipe in a separate post :)

24 more days to go! Jiayou!

Supermum Day 1 - Mission accomplished!

Finally, my little prince is asleep. But he is sleeping in a position that gives me no opportunity to move. Feeling insecure, he had placed his head and buttock on each of my legs.

But his reactions today had showed me that children's basic instinct is to look for their mummies when their usual caretakers (who are not their mummies) are unavailable. Didi has been sticking to me like glue the whole day and only looked for my mil occasionally. While previously, James only look for my helper and mil.

Was happy to watch the kids enjoyed their dinner tonight. My cooking skills are rusty but yet able to produce nice food I guess. Seriously due to my flu i lost my sense of taste and smell, so I could not test the food I cooked. However, the happy faces of Laogong  and children showed that they enjoyed their food.

It was a good first day. Tomorrow we will be attending Remus' birthday party! Hope Didi can behave himself tmr!

Night Night to all!

Transition into my helper-less month...

In a few hours time, I will be at the airport sending my helper off for her one month leave. Being over reliant on my helper on household chores and matters, Laogong and myself knew that it will be a tough one mth ahead. But I believe we will be able to brave through this "tough times".

This month is going to be a very happening month too as I finally will get to do my eyebrow embroidery next week. I had waited in the queue for close to 4-6 months. Not sure how it will turn out but there were so many good reviews over her skills. Will blog about her service next week.

April is my birthday month. Usually my close friends will chope me for my birthday celebrations, but this year i told my close friends that I am okay to do without any get-together makan. Or I can only confirm after next week after the family routine is more stable. Really appreciate my friends for remembering my hatch day ^^ If I am not free to catch up in April, please don't feel bad because we can always catch up later on :)

Having such a good helper has resulted in my rusty cooking skills but I believe I will be able to "revise" and catch up on my cooking skills. So stay tune to read on my cooking "fantasy" this month ^^

Hadn't been well since I returned from Melaka. And today I had a flu outbreak. Hope I will recover soon!

As I write I kept dozing off coz i had my flu medicine just now :P I guess I better sleep soon! Stay tune! ^^

Happening January..

28 January 2016. Time flies as we approach the end of the first month of the new year.

What have you done so far this month? Busy with your Primary One child like I did during the first 2 weeks and now busy doing our "last minute" Chinese New Year shopping?

Finally I finished my own CNY clothes shopping last weekends! This year CNY is so "early"! In just another 10 days, it is already CNY! There are so many things I had done in January and so many things I had yet to do~~~

Princess goes to Primary One

As many know, my little baby princess turned 6 years old last Nov and now she is in Primary 1! Like many gancheong and ONZ mothers, I took 2 days leave to "support" Jamie and to attend the curriculum and parenting talks. Through the participation of the two days orientation programme, I was lucky to find a group of enthu but not overly enthu mummies. Yes, it is important to be enthu about your child's academic but being with a group of overly enthu parents, we will not only add stress to our kids, we will also add stress to ourselves. Please lor, we already have to worry about bread and butter everyday, and now has to be worried about our kids' homework. Still not enough for us to be worried meh?

I find myself now feeling obliged to fly home after work to revise school work and learn spelling and 听写 with Jamie. I am kinda of worried I will lose myself.. *cough* like our parents did. :P

However, Jamie surprises me every other day from being able to read new English words now using her newly picked up phonic skills, to getting 96/100 for her first 听写. I am never a very smart child, so I always choose to study smart. What I mean by study smart? Well, if I know I die also cannot remember a Maths formula then I will choose to skip that topic and focus on the other topics which I can score in. Similarly, since I don't think Jamie is able to score 100 marks for Chinese 听写, hence I don't find it helpful to push her unrealistically. I am happy for her to get 80-90 marks. Thus I was really happy for her when she comes home with 96 marks for her first 听写.

I also love hearing all the stories she brings home about her new friends. Little Jamie is never good with names (like her Baba), hence she likes to give them "nickname" or "code name". Example who and who is her number 2 friend whom she got to know on her school bus. She was extremely thrilled (so am I) when a "3rd" new friend asked her to be her BFF!

I am looking forward to hear more stories about Jamie's adventure in her Primary School.

Prince turns THREE

Our prince ended his terrible two this January. But it does not make him an angel yet. Haha! He is still as cheeky but I have to say, he is more "reasonable" and he expresses himself so much better now. I love to be surprised by him every other day too, hearing the new words and full sentences coming out from his mouth.

His princey look really melts my heart too and I have to consciously refrain myself from letting him get away from his misdeeds simply by giving me a kiss on my lips! Haha!

Laogong's Birthday Staycation

Last weekends, we checked in at DoubleTree@JB again for Laogong's birthday staycation. Among the three JB hotels we had our staycations before (ie. Hotel Jen @ Puteri Harbour, KSL Resort and DoubleTree@JB, we personally like DoubleTree more. Not sure if Hilton is more upclass than Shangri-la but I find the hotel staff more approachable and proactive.

I feel that the hotel rooms are more value for money too because for S$204, we can actually get a lovely and cosy one bedroom suite at DoubleTree@JB!

We also get to sign up HHonours member for FREE. For the one bedroom suite, we are entitled to FOC pre-dinner liquor and canapés at the Executive Lounge, plus breakfast at Executive Lounge or Tosco Restnt instead of the main breakfast area. The pre-dinner liquor is really heavenly for us who can drink a lot. They not only serve good quality red and white wine, a variety of spirit and whiskey with different mixers, they also served bottled beer. The canapés were filling enough to be eaten as dinner too.

Nevertheless, we still proceeded to have our "real dinner" at Tosco Restnt. The indoor ambience was great and you can also choose to have your food served by the poolside. I was very full, hence shared a pasta and dessert with Laogong.

The next morning we had our breakfast exclusively at Tosco Restnt. Love the omelette as always and the porridge too.

Did CNY shopping for my CNY and new work clothes! Okay, frankly if not for our currency power, some of the dresses I bought at RM89-139 are not considered cheap for the locals. But of coz compared to the min $50s-$80s dresses selling in SG boutiques, the dresses I bought are considered cheap.

After our simple dinner and 1-2hr jam at the customs, we got home to cut Laogong's birthday cake with our princess and prince!

New Korean BBQ and New Chilling HangOut

I lately fell in love with Korean BBQ...

I not only went to Arirang Korean BBQ Buffet with Laogong to celebrate our 16th years anniversary, I also went for another Korean BBQ Buffet at Chinatown Point to celebrate Yeewen's birthday. I personally like the cooked food at Arirang but the meat served at Chinatown Point is of better quality. There are more variety of meat over there too. You cannot imagine we 3 girls could finish 4 servings of beef, 3 servings of pork and 2 servings of chicken! And not including the soups, sides and vegetables we had too!

Chupito - Shooters Paradise but really not for us

Met up with Yvonne to "celebrate her new venture". We were adventurous and wanted to try Shooters @ Chupito and Tanyoto Steamboat Supper Buffet.

We concluded that Shooters are not for us. Harry Potter's Butter Beer tastes interesting though. We were pretty amazed by the amount of alcohol that was mixed into our looking harmless drinks. It was a cool place but definitely not for us. Haha!

We finally tasted Tanyoto. Nothing fantastic really except for the interesting soup bases, ie, salted cabbage and fish base and tomato soup base. The seafood and meat don't smell very fresh either. After my horrible two nights at TTSH, I became very cautious about what I eat so I didn't eat much in the end. Won't go again.. :P

My January is so happening hor? But there are so much more to do before CNY. Hope I get to check these off my "To Do List" soon! ^^

6 more hours to Jamie's BIG SIX!

Happy Deepavali everyone!

How's everyone celebrating your public holidays? Today's Jamie's play date with her 3 besties! And of coz our little Prince (aka the Thorn among the Roses today) joined in the fun too. As the Kidz Amaze @ TPY is super packed today, I don't get to lie down on my favorite beanbag :( and have to sit outside on the plastic chairs. Okay lah, it is not too uncomfy and I get to enjoy my ME time while the children get to have their fun. Hehehe...

This morning, Jamie got her birthday surprise from her BFF Alessandra who stays just next block to us and they had fun with the toys and iPad, before we headed out to meet her other two besties, Isabella to have Happy Meals and Playdate.

All Ready for Kidz Amaze!

As you all know, it had been a very busy 5 days for us - Jamie and me especially.

Time flies... My little Princess is not only turning 6 years old in less than 12hrs, but had also graduated as a preschooler.

Jamie's K2 Graduation on 6 Nov 2015

Next year is the start of a whole new adventure for her and I hope she will grow stronger, be more resilient and survive through the challenges like I did in my schooling days :) There is no easier way out but to fight your way out...

My Strong Little Big Girl in Uniform!

Was browsing her Graduation Certificate last night. Wow.. it shows how her kindergarten sees the importance of this new phase in her life...

Jamie, soar as high as you can. It does not matter how fast you soar, as long as you get to your destination. We will be proud of you for who you are :)

Looking forward to when the clock strikes 12midnight tonight.. Miss the little baby who I used to coax to sleep every night. I enjoyed the most of my pregnacy and motherhood when I had Jamie. She was an easy baby to conceive, apart from the food poisoning incident and the mutiple contraction scares.

I get to have a taste of my first motherhood and was very hands-on until Jamie turned 7 month and I went back to work. Of coz there were times when I was very fed-up and needed some ME time but I appreciated the time I spent with Jamie back then. Till now, I feel that Jamie and I are closer than James and I, was due to the time we spent together before I returned to the workforce.

I really miss those wonderful days I spent with Jamie. Now that I have a more work-life friendly career, I will work on striking a better balance with my career and home roles.

Birthday Girl with her Joy and Saddness @ POLW

This year, we held her "home party" at POLW once again. Initially I wanted to change to an indoor venue due to the haze and potential bad weather.

Eventually, I still decided to take the risk and hold it at POLW because it is not easy to find a venue that allows outside cake and food without signing a birthday package. Plus, Jamie is definitely more of  a water lover like her father.

We were really blessed and lucky that the weather was great at Sentosa on 7 Nov 2015 (Sat). It was raining heavily or drizzling non-stop in most parts of Singapore, just before the party started. I had to assure my guests via whatsapp that the weather was great and the party would resume.

Jamie gets to "decorate" her cake using the "Inside Out" figurings together with Godma and she was so thrilled with the water play with her cousins and friends!

All Ready for Water Splashing Fun!

Thank you everyone for taking time off to attend Jamie's party. Jamie had lots of fun with her friends and cousins! Thank you for all the lovely gifts too!

Lovely Gifts!

Wanted to let Jamie do cake cutting in school on her actual birthday on 11 Nov 2015 (Wed). But due to their field trip, I decided to do her cake cutting in school on 9 Nov 2015 (Mon) instead.

The theme for the school cake was "My Little Pony" so Jamie requested me to look like Pinky Pie, while Laogong decided to be Rainbow Dash!

Jamie gets to help with the school cake decoration too and she was generous enough to let her classmates have the cake toppers after cake cutting.

This year Jamie was especially happy because Laogong managed to make time to attend her school birthday celebration (Finally!). As this will be her last school birthday celebration (I doubt primary school has this "culture"), I am very happy it can be so "exceptional" too!

Let's continue to count down... about 6+ more hours to go...!
